When ARIVA discovered the perks of losing pen and paper for Timesheets

Based in Kiel, Germany, ARIVA.DE ensures Germans are always informed about stock market prices, as the website allows users to read financial news and have discussions in a stock exchange forum. With more than 100,000 registered users, ARIVA is one of the largest stock exchange communities in Germany.

With 20 years of experiences and over 100 employees, ARIVA deals with major banks, stock market operators and other corporations of the capital market. They offers a wide range of services like software programming, website development and the implementation of regulatory services.

So how did Timesheets by Tempo help such a major financial player?

The challenge

“After an evaluation period of 1-2 years, we decided to use Jira in production for all of our employees,” Maik Barz, the head of software development, explains. “We started with one project in Jira and then we expanded the software to the whole company. We use it for software development and bug reports, for making orders, for customer messages and for operations. The whole process at ARIVA is adapted to Jira.”

So how did ARIVA use to go about tracking time in Jira?

“Pen and paper!” Barz laughs.

“We have a tool here with an RFID chip, so that tracks when one of our employees checks in,” Barz adds. “It’s for tracking overtime and holidays. But to track where the work of employees was going, that was much more difficult.”

The solution

A few years ago, one of ARIVA ’s employees mentioned to management that they once used Timesheets in a prior company for work logging. Today, nearly 80% of ARIVA employees track their work on tickets, so there is a nearly complete overview of where the time of employees is going.

ARIVA management now has an easy way to pull time and expense reports from their projects and can invoice customers with little effort. Project leaders approve employee timesheets at the end of the month directly before customers will be charged.

The results

ARIVA employees appreciate how straightforward it is to use Timesheets.

“It’s really easy to track our work,” says Barz. “This way we have an overview of our operations – if we have too many meetings, for example. I think Timesheets by Tempo is really useful to plan time for being off, for holidays, for sickness. Our teams have a fast overview of how they can plan their holidays.”

“Our employees don’t particularly like logging work, but I think nobody likes that really,” Barz continues with a laugh.“ With Timesheets, they enjoy it as much as it is possible to do so!”
